..?7 up Town...? Sporting Bengal 0 Whitstable Town 7
Town were nearly a goal up inside the first minute, Arron
Knight?s shot fizzing past Zaman?s upright from a neat Steve Marshall ball.
Andy Constable, starting upfront alongside Marshall for first time this season
started to cause the home defence problems, his fierce shot beaten away for a
corner. Seager whipping the ball in, Marshall out jumping all in a packed area
to put Town 1-0 up in the 8th minute. Kier then went close with a
header, again from a Seager corner, as did Addcock a minute later as Town laid
siege to Zaman?s goal. Whitstable extended their lead with goals in the 27th
and 30th minute, firstly Constable after Parker?s great cross-field
pass picked out Perona who fed the ball to Constable who slotted the ball past
Zaman. Then Marshall added his second, Constable turning provider after some
great midfield play by Perona and Seager set up the move. In reply the home side went closest when Foyzul Hoque
skipped down the flanks, his first time cross was just missed at the far post
by Mujhard Hussain. Half Time: Sporting Bengal 0 Whitstable Town 3 The first fifteen minutes of the second half were off the
pace of the first, Seager saying after the game: ?We thought that at 3-0 up we
could shoot every time we faced goal, I had to remind the lads we had a game
plan, lets keep it simple, stop them playing and the goals will come, it was a
pretty bumpy surface so we had to adapt our style of play a little. But to
their credit the lads went back to basics and the goals stared to flow again.? And flow they did, Stuart Harrison scoring in the 83rd
minute after Zaman had saved from Constable. Addcock went off, replaced by Rob
Thomas, and then Perona scored goal number five. At 5-0 up Seager made way for
Toby Roy, Town still pressing for more goals. Great saves by Zaman from
Constable, Marshall and Perona, with Martin making to crucial goal line
clearance kept the score down to five goals. But Town were not to be denied,
Harrison flighting a header to the far post, to score his second and Town?s
sixth. Marshall rounded off his hat trick with a well-taken goal in
the 89th minute, nipping past the keeper after good work by Prett.
Marshall?s celebration had much to do with recent jibes that he may be past his
best; he did fine impression of making his way back to the halfway line like an
old man with a walking stick. Full Time: Sporting Bengal 0 Whitstable Town 7 Team: Mark
