A full KOFL program for first team and reserves... A packed week of football kicks off tonight when Whitstable Town reserves play Herne Bay at Winches Field in the first game of the Floodlight Trophy. Kick off 7.45pm. Town's first team return to Kent League action on Saturday with a trip to twelfth placed Sporting Bengal. The outcome is not guaranteed as the Bengalis are nothing if not inconsistent so far this season. Whitstable will want to extend their current run of away form in the league, unbeaten in the last three out of their four away fixtures, three points will keep the Reds in touch with the chasing pack. Back at the Belmont the reserves will be playing a six pointer against Erith Town who are seven points behind, but have four games in hand over the divisional leaders. Elsewhere, a long trip on Thursday night for Deal Town to play VCD in the Premier Division Cup, followed by another cross county trek on Saturday to struggling Erith Town in the league. VCD meanwhile will be hosting a strong Slade Green side in a mid table clash that is bound to have a big effect on Whitstable's league position come Saturday evening. Another tough fixture to call is at sixth place Herne Bay who are paid a visit by Erith and Belvedere, who are currently holding fifth with a goal difference of just a single goal from the Blues. No doubt the press will be highlighting the other top of the table game between Lordswood and Beckenham Town. That's fourth playing first, but a much improved Lordswood, at the head of the chasing pack, are still thirteen points adrift of the leaders although they do have 2 games in hand. Third position Thamesmead visit bottom club Sevenoaks, presumably to take the three points, although I sense sooner or later the worm will turn and provide us with a shock result, maybe with a little help from their pitch? Mead are now 11 points behind Beckenham and only have one game in hand; one slip could prove fatal to their seasons aspirations. Title challengers Maidstone United are away to mid table Tunbridge Wells in a 'Weald of Kent' derby. The Stones are six from the lead with a game in hand. The remaining premier fixture is Hythe Town versus Greenwich Borough down on the south coast and down at the foot of the table. Tuesday the 8th of November sees the Whitstable Town first team in league action again, this time at home against Lordswood. Kick off at 7.45pm. Come on you Reds! Peter Albin, 1st November 2005 |
