The FA Vase kicks off ! PDF Print E-mail

This coming week?.The FA Vase kicks off !
ImageThe FA Vase 1st round proper is the main focus of this Saturdays matches. After exemption from the qualifying rounds Whitstable Town play Andover F.C. at the Belmont Ground, kick off at 3.00 p.m. Like Whitstable Andover play at step five in the national football pyramid. They have a good record this season and are currently in 5th place in the Wessex League Division 1, after beating 4th placed Hamworthy 3-1 Tuesday night (25th Oct). Whitstable, pleased to have found their scoring boots again while demolishing Sevenoaks last week in the KOFL Premier, will be wanting to get into the hat for the next draw. None more so than striker Steve Marshall and player/manager Marc Seager, FA vase winners with Deal Town in 2000. The Town's supporters love a cup run and a good crowd is expected.

The other exempt Kent League team to join at this stage, Herne Bay, are also drawn at home and play Epsom & Ewell from the Isthmian League 2. Deal Town are exempt until the next round. Qualifying KOFL sides drawn at home are, Erith & Belvedere who play Spartan Premier's Hillingdon Borough, Erith Town up against the Sussex League 1 side Whitehawk and Greenwich Borough entertaining, if that's the right phrase, Collier's Wood United from the Combined Counties Premier League.

Facing trips away are VCD who travel to Cove (Combined Counties Premier), Slade Green who play Mile Oak (Sussex League 2), Maidstone United at Hellenic Premier's North Leigh, Hythe Town versus Wessex League 1 VTFC and finally Thamesmead Town with a journey down to Wantage Town of the Hellenic Premier.

Another cup competition under way this week is the KOFL Premier Division Cup. In group 'C' on Saturday Deal Town play at Tunbridge Wells and on Thursday evening they travel again all the way to Borough Green to play VCD in the same competition.

While Deal's first team are away on Saturday their reserve side play at the Charles Sports ground against Whitstable Town's reserves in a KOFL division one game.

Whitstable Town Ressies also have an away game on Tuesday night (1st November) against Herne Bay in the first Floodlight Cup game of the season. Kick off at 7.45 pm. Why not go along and cheer them on in this derby match, what else will you be doing?watching Liverpool v Anderlecht on the box?

Come on you Reds!

Peter Albin. 25th October 2005
