BUDGE STRIKES A STUNNING WINNER

Image Picture assitant manager Peter Budge: Simon Kay said his team talk at half time turned the game: Whitstable Town Reserves 2 Bromley Reserves 1: Kent League-Division 1:    Reports: Simon Kay.....
Darren Budge struck a sweet left footed strike to hand Town Reserves all three points and consolidate top spot in Division 1:  Bromley came to the Belmont languishing in the bottom three in the table but produced a first half of total football that at times was superb and they played Town off the pitch for the entire first half. Town were sluggish and lazy but take nothing away from Bromley, they were passing the ball around at a pace Town just couldn?t cope with. Bromley inevitable took the lead but it came from a mix up between Rob Thomas and Josh Maine which saw the striker run through to slot past French in the Town goal. French fresh from his debut in the first team last week looked very comfortable, claiming crosses and producing some fantastic saves as it was constant Bromley pressure. Town?s best chance of the half fell to Darren Bridges but he could only fire his shot straight at the keeper.

Image Picture Darren Budge: Some honest and true words were spoken at half time by Manager Simon Kay and assistant Peter Budge which paid off as Town came out firing like they can and right from kick off threatened the Bromley goal with Alex Hossick and Jake Gess both going close. A surging run down the right flank by Rob Thomas set the tone for the rest of the half as Town played at a tempo and pressured all over the park. Bromley though still threatened and but for a stunning save from French the game could have moved out of reach. The equaliser came and was just deserved as Budge curled over a free kick which Gess rose to head home a powerful header. That only lifted Town even more and the fresh introduction of Bertie Braidwood and Adam Wilson livened things even more, Braidwood and Wilson added an injection of urgency and work rate to get Town the winning they searched. The winner came for Town and what a goal it was, Braidwood pressured a high ball that was lofted up field and Darren Budge picked up the loose ball to take one touch a fire a left foot shot straight into the top corner for Town to take all three points.
