Whitstable took the lead after fifteen minutes when from a Chris Neighbour’s corner; Joe Hancock’s superb header from twelve yards flew into the top right hand corner of the net giving the Margate keeper no chance. However Margate drew level ten minutes later when they scored from a direct free kick from 25 yards despite Kieran Atkinson’s best efforts in the Whitstable goal. The score line of 1-1 at half time was a fair reflection of how the game was being played.
