“We should have won it” said Dylan McVicker, “we were leading and they equalised but to be honest were are very disappointed to loose, we were on top for long periods and showed we are a decent side.”
With 10 players unavailable through injuries / other commitments & no 1st team players available to bolster the squad it was an extremely young Whitstable side that took to the field against Chatham Town with 11 of the 14 man squad 20 or under. The game started brightly with Chatham putting Whitstable under early pressure without troubling Dylan MacVicar in goal. With 25 minutes on the clock a good move down the left involving Dean Grant & Gareth Cornhill resulted in a cross into the box for Ugo Emekwue to cooly slot into the bottom corner. A good solid 1st half was spoilt somewhat with an error at the back allowing Chatham to equalise just before halftime taking us into the break on the back foot. Both teams attacked after the break and it took another good move this time down the right involving James Polley & Joe Smith resulting in a cross which the Chatham goalkeeper thought he could catch comfortably only for Emekwue to nip in to head home from 6 yards to claim his second goal of the game. With the rain pouring down Chatham bombarded the Town defence with Nick Lingham & James Duffy standing solid in the middle, unfortunately with only 3 minutes left the Chatham pressure told with a scramble in the box resulting in an equaliser. For the second game running a disappointing result but an extremely good performance sent the manager home in good spirits with the prospects of a home game next saturday against Cray Wanderers set up hopefully for our 1st win of the campaign. Team ; Dylan MacVicar, James Polley, Dean Morley, James Duffy, Nick Lingham, Michael Holliday, Joe Smith, Kirk Cummings (Brad Holman 60), Dean Grant, Gareth Cornhill (Junior Brown 75), Ugo Emekwue |
