Saturday 23rd August - Sheppey 2 v 1 Whitstable: Last pre seaon game: The day got off to a poor start for Whitstable when Bertie Braidwood
limped out of the warmup with tight calves to be replaced by Dean Grant
returning from inury himself.
The game was a difference in styles with
a young Whitstable side trying to play football against a much older
& stronger Sheppey side. Things got worse for Whitstable after 20
minutes when Charlie Belcher dislocated his shoulder in a midfield
tussle and was taken to Medway Hospital to have it reset (we all wish
Charlie a speedy recovery).
Right on the stroke of half time Town went
behind when Sheppey scored from a corner. After the break Whitstable
stuck to their principles and played good football but unfortunately a
mistake at the back put Town 0-2 behind.
A hard fought battle was
rewarded in the 75th minute with a penalty awarded which was cooly
converted by the in-form Ugo to give him 4 goals in 2 games, despite
the best efforts of the players the equaliser was not forthcoming and
Town completed their pre-season campaign with a 1-2 reverse.
