Emekwue hat trick seals Town Res win... PDF Print E-mail
With twelve players unavailable for the last midweek friendly before league action starts in part due to work commitments / injuries it was a patched up Whitstable side took to the field against Bredhurst FC; a side a newly promoted into the Kent County League.

The game started fairly evenly but with an unseen trialist substituted after only 15 minutes the game took a turn for the worse as Bredhurst opened the scoring. Mid-way through the first half Whitstable players then got a grip of the game and hit back with two goals before halftime from young striker Ugo Emekwue "Town" leading 2-1 at the interval.

Town  increased their lead to 3-1, coming from good work by Nathan Eastwood forcing the  Bredhurst defender to conceed an own under pressure from  the lively Eastwood. Some of Town’s players began to tire as the second half wore on, for a few playing it was their 1st game back from injury, others carrying knocks began to struggle. Having used all their substitutes and no one to come on from the bench Whitstable began to look off the pace, Bredhurst rallied and two quick goals brought the game level at 3-3.

With the scores level Whitstable rallied late on with young striker Emekwue completing his hat trick, his third a crashing drive into the top corner from an acute angle. Billed as a pre-season "summer" fixture the game finished in near darkness and driving rain with Town running out the eventual 4-3 winners.

Manager Glen Essam: “We’ve have had a very difficult start to our season, every time I have planned for a match, it’s been called off so to get a game under our belt, and a win, I am delighted. With so many players missing it’s been down to sheer hard work that the lads available hung on to get a result. For Ugo to grab a hast-trick shows we have the talent in the side, we just need more games to get that all important match fitness.”
