Mark Wyer reporting on the Match: Whitstable Town welcomed Croydon Athletic to Belmont Road with both sides looking for their first Ryman Division One South points of the season.
Town went down 2-1 at Chipstead while Athletic suffered a 1-0 home loss to Metropolitan Police.

Marc Seager was dealt a blow on the day of the match when both striker Ian Pulman and midfielder Tommy Martin were ruled out by illness which paved the way for young striker Scott Punton to make his debut after signing from Dover Athletic.

The visitors had the first chance when former Gillingham and Bromley midfielder Simon Osborn fired wide while the home side were dealt a blow when Jack Tanner suffered a hamstring injury and was replaced by Marcos Perona on the right of midfield.

The opening goal of the game came on 18 minutes when after Clint Gooding lost possession Osborn struck a crisp shot past Kevin Fewell to give the South Londoners the lead.

Fewell was then called into action when he saved well from Sam Clayton before referee Martin Yerby spotted a handball before Jack Smelt had made a superb save from Punton. The resulting penalty was confidently put away by Jake Gess for the equaliser.

Five minutes after the ha;f time break the visitors again retook the lead when after Fewell had saved well from Jeremiah Olusanya the ball fell to Clayton who rifled the ball into the back of the net.

The home side continued to battle and were again rewarded when after a Nick Bagley shot had been handled on the line Ges again outwitted Smelt to draw the Oystermen level. Tony Chaplin the Croydon defender was shown a red card for the original offence.

With the game looking like it would end all square Town Full Back Danny Tipple hit a high ball which Smelt called for only for defender Brian Glover to head over his keeper and assure The Reds their first three points of the season. WTFC 3 vs Croydon Athletic 2:
