BUDGE DOUBLE SINKS GREEN IN RESERVES CUP: Slade Green Reserves 1 v Whitstable Town Reserves 4 Division ? Cup:Report By: Simon Kay

ImageDarren Budge hit a super double and set up the other two to sink Slade Green and send Town into the next round of the cup.Town started very brightly and swamped the Green goal with attack after attack in the early stages. With Rob Thomas and the returning Terry Ratchford coming in alongside Sam Baker and James Duffy at the back Town looked comfortable and very settled. Debutant Anthony Sharpe and Andy Martin looked sharp upfront and both came close to opening the scoring. The breakthrough came after 15 minutes. Budge curled in a flighted free kick from the left, which new signing Sharpe tapped home at the second attempt. Green though were very soon back on level terms after some sloppy defending saw the scores level at 1-1. Barely 5 minutes had passed though before Town put themselves back in front after another Budge free kick was knocked down by Thomas for Ratchford to fire a crashing shot into the roof of the net.

ImageThe second half was just 2 minutes old when Town were awarded a free kick 30 yards from goal and Darren Budge stepped up to fire his shot straight into the top corner to put Town in a comfortable position. A change of formation saw Town settle for what they had and to try and hit Slade Green on the counter attack. Town did come under some pressure but were rarely threatened; keeper Mark Hickson foiled their best chance superbly. Jake Gess came close with a header and Andy Martin was denied from 20 yards out. Town?s 4th was a gem of a goal as Darren Budge picked the ball up on the half way line and beat his marker before freeing substitute Bertie Braidwood down the line who crossed superbly for Budge to get on the end of it and head a powerful header past the keeper to complete a good win for Town Reserves.
