Herne Bay visit
the Belmont on Tuesday evening 7-45 for the first of an annual match between the two sides at the Belmont to contest the Bruce Smith Shield, K.O. 7.45.
This will be an annual event with next years game being held at Winch's Field. With the agreement of both chairman their will be penalties if the scores are level after 90 minutes:
Bruce has been at
Whitstable for over 50 years; now in his eightieth year he has held every
position at WTFC with the exception of chairman during his time at the club.
Until last season he was kit-man, he still tends to the pitch along with Joe
the pair winging the award for the best playing surface in the Southeast of
England when were in the Kent League. WTFC manger Marc Seager describing Bruce as:”
A ‘Legend’… in football you don’t get
the likes of Bruce coming along too often, he is so well respected by all the
players and everyone at Whitstable, indeed wherever you go in football you will
not hear a bad word said about him. I am delighted that we are playing Herne
Bay for the Bruce Smith shield and all the players are looking forward to
meeting up with old friends again.”
