Whitstable Town
Reserves 1 v 1 Herne Bay Reserves: Injuries to players from both sides
cast a cloud over what was otherwise an entertaining
game, both requiring hospital treatment. Neither injury caused by foul
play, the Herne Bay’s Rob Lawrence was kept in hospital overnight after it was confirmed
he suffered a broken arm and two breaks to his hand, Whitstable’s Dean Morley
is recovering from a head wound.
After a long and trying pre-season with cancelled games, motorway
crashes and players moving in and out of the club it was good to
finally settle in to a game at The Belmont. We fielded a young side for
this fixture and the team settled well playing some good controlled
football in the early stages. This culminated with Town taking the lead
in the 20th minute with a good move down the right hand side ended with
a cross by Bertie Braidwood being met with a diving header by Ben
Brown.
The game was then held up for 30 minutes due with a ambulance
being called to treat a Herne Bay player for a broken arm. This break
disrupted our game somewhat and after halftime we struggled to find the
same fluency. From a frre kick given away on the edge of our own box,
Herne Bay equalised with a well taken free kick into the bottom corner.
The rest of the game finished fairly even with a number of
substitutions and a clash of heads resulted in Deam Morley being taken
to hospital for stitches in a head wound. Overall a draw was probably a
fair result
