Match report by Mark Wyver: Marc Seager named an unchanged side for the third game in a row as Whitstable Town travelled to former Kent League rivals Chatham Town for their Ryman Division One South clash. sorry for delay in posting:
In form striker Ian Pulman who had a brief spell with The Chats last season almost gave The Oystermen the perdect start only to miscue badly after latching on to a David Cory throuigh ball. Piicture by Per Laleng: Dave Corey celebrates Inan Pulman's goal to level the score at 1-1: The home side twice went close before Pulman created another good chance only to finish weakly. Whitstable captain Marcos Perona earned himself a talking to from the referee before Rob Denness twice went close for Chatham. The former Ashford striker forced Kevin Fewell to tip over one effort and then did likewise with another strike from 20 yards from the young Chatham striker. It was Chatham who took the lead when Gary Sayer was caught out on the edge of the penalty area and as the ball was played across the lively Mark Brooks finished from close range. Picture WTFC: Kevin Fewell was solid between the posts for Whitstable:
After a stern talking to from Seager during the half time interval his side quickly got back on terms when Dan Larkin, Richard Avery and keeper Miroslav Oravec were caugfht out by a long ball and Pulman had the easiest of chances to equalise. Perona then had a close range effort deflected over the bar for a corner before Denness needed treatment after an accidental collision with Clint Gooding. A corner from Tommy Martin then caused problems for the home defenders and after the ball had pinged around the area Liam Quinn fired low past Oravec into the far corner. Cory could have extended the lead only to shoot over while Chatham sent on Shane Suter in a bid to find a leveller to no avil. Whitstable Town now find themselves twelve points clear of the relegation zone with this three points over their Kent rivals. |
