Albert Gouldson: 1919-2005 PDF Print E-mail
It is with great sadness that we mourn the passing of one of Whitstable's most loyal supporters, Albert Gouldson who passed away on Monday. On behalf of everyone at Whitstable Town I would like to offer sincere condolences to his wife Doris, son Tony and all his family.
Albert has been a permanent fixture at the Belmont for many years, often as gateman at the 'Belmont Rd' gate; he always had a tale to tell and a ready smile. Who could forget Albert and 'banjo Sid' who would entertain the travelling supporters whenever there was a coach trip away, with some great singsongs. I grew up with Albert's son Tony, and was privileged to know him for over 40 years. My brother Stan reminded me the other day of the time when Albert had the first 'proper TV in the road, his son Tony used to invite all us kids round to watch. My dad said its 'too many of you round at Albert's, you will have to stop going'. The next day Albert knocked on our door, He asked why us boys did not go round to watch TV, he said he liked to have the kids round...
That was Albert. Tony Rouse

The funeral takes place at Barham crematorium at 12-30 on Monday; afterwards back at Whitstable Town clubhouse for 1-30/2pm. No flowers by request except family: Donations to The Pilgrims Hospice.

The Belmont:
“The only way is up…” After conceding six goals in their opening game, Whitstable let in another three to lose their second game in four days, to find themselves firmly rooted at the bottom of the Kent League within the first week of the new season. However, Whitstable’s management are convinced they have the talent at the club to turn things around, starting with the game on Saturday against Tunbridge Wells....

Town lose 6-2 in opening Kent League game PDF Print E-mail
tn_becks_away_parker (3k image)....Town lose 6-2 in opening Kent League game… Beckenham 6 Whitstable Town 2
If…. Beckenham are able to field the same side week in week out, then you’d be foolish not to back them to win the Kent League title at a canter. I say if, because this very, very talented side is almost totally made up of ‘academy players’ groomed for Beckenham’s sister club Fisher who are able to call on players who have been trained since an early age at clubs such as Crystal Palace, West Ham, Millwall and Charlton to name just a few.

Ilford 1 Whitstable Town 2 PDF Print E-mail
tn_ilford_midfield_pen (2k image)“Two minute burst kills off Ilford...”Prett and Colenutt hit form… Ilford 1 Whitstable Town 2 Whitstable Saturday, 6th August 2005: The Ilford pitch looked lush and green, and certainly flat and true from sidelines, ‘the pitch must be rock hard’ said one of the supporters, as both sides seemed to deal with the ball as if it were a hot potato. Long balls bounced way too high and the ball seemed at times to take on a life of its own. “It’s the leagues new match ball’ ball said one of the Ilford staff, ‘it seems a bit bouncy and moves about a bit, it’s the first time we’ve used it.’

,But the ball had nothing to do with the way Whitstable played the first 45 minutes, not that they were unorganised by any standards, just the delivery to the forwards in the final 20 to 25 yards was over hit with alarming regularity, either too hard or to high.  Town’s best moves coming via Darren Budge wide on the right combining with Gary Sayer, or Paul Colenutt on the left, backed up by the ever improving, Tom Parker. When Town played the ball out wide Ilford were stretched, the only time their defence was troubled was by balls whipped in from the flanks for the lively Sam Prett and Aaron Knight. If ever there was a player who has ‘grown into a man’ over the closed season it is Knight.

Pre-season friendly  Whitstable Town 0 Horsham YMCA 1  30th July 2005: At the Belmont Ground:
By the final whistle the visitor’s manager, John Suter was by far the happier of the two managers; Town’s Matt Toms could hardly contain his frustration at his side’s inability to get on the score sheet. “Difficult to pinpoint why we were so flat today, I could say it was the late start, 3-30 kick off when we had the lads ready for or normal time, but that masks what was a poor performance by the standards we have set ourselves at Whitstable. All I can say, if that’s our one poor game of the season, them I’m glad we have it out of the way before the league starts in two weeks time. We did not defend at a corner and that was their only real chance of the first half, sure our keeper Mark Brown needed to make decent save just before that but we never got into areas where we could hurt them, it was very disappointing all round.”
