RED FIVE?by Peter Albin PDF Print E-mail

ImagePeter Albin  THE WEEK AHEAD - 29th November

RED FIVE? nothing to do with Nigel Mansell, but fifth spot for Whitstable Town FC if they can pick up their fourth win in a row in the KOF League at the Belmont Road ground on Saturday. It's not going to be easy though, against a strong Thamesmead Town side currently commanding third place, who have an in form striker in Curtis Williams, currently on 9 goals. However, they did slip up last time away from home, losing by the only goal in the game to Deal Town. The Reds also play on Wednesday night (the 7th) in the Premier League Cup group B, away at Lordswood. Both unbeaten in this competition a win or a draw would keep Town at the top of the group.
With three points at the Belmont fifth place would be assured because the two teams immediately above play each other. An in form Lordswood travel to Park View Road to play an Erith & Belvedere side that have yet to lose at home this season. Lordswood also have a nine goal hotshot in the form of Andy Doerr.
Top billing in the media will go to the Beckenham Town v Maidstone United match. The once upon a time runaway leaders could be pegged back to just three points should the unbeaten Stones manage a win.
In the closest mid-table for some years Deal Town host an in form VCD Athletic side, both will be playing to ensure they don't lose touch with the chasing pack and both currently have in form strikers, John Utterson on 10 and Lee Coburn on 9 goals in the league.

The easiest game in the top 8 is, on paper, for Herne Bay who will travel up to next to bottom Greenwich Borough although the result is by no means a given on a difficult pitch away from home.

The other six of the bottom seven play each other, Slade Green at Sevenoaks, Tunbridge Wells at Erith Town and Hythe Town at Sporting Bengal.
The Reserves beat  Lordswood reserves 2-1 tonight (Tuesday 29th) at the Belmont, in the Floodlight Trophy. And in an evenly balanced fixture on Saturday they defend their present first place spot in Division 1, away at Dartford.

Come on you Reds!

Sam Friskey signs PDF Print E-mail

Sam Friskey signs and plays at Belmont.....Sam  Friskey newly signed from Erith & Belvedere plays his fist game at the Belmont tonight (Tuesday) in the Reserves Floodlit League. Town manager Marc Seager saying, ?now we have young goalkeeper Sam Mott in as cover for Marc Brown, the arrival of Sam  Friskey at Whitstable means that I have my squad sorted for this season. I believe we have the team sprit, the strength in depth through the clubs youth policy and Towns very strong reserves set-up managed by Simon and Peter to move the club forward. I am thrilled Sam Friskey has joined us, Andy Constable has just turned down a move, neither him or Sam were interested in the financial side, both players just want to play with quality players alongside them so that they can perform to the best of their ability. I feel we can offer them this at Whitstable.?  Friskey , previously an apprentice with Wimbledon FC was being chased by three other Kent League clubs, plus others at a higher level before signing for Whitstable.
