Whitstable Town 3 Dartford FC 3: Towns bright start new campaign: Pre-season match at the Belmont Saturday 22nd
July 2006: Picture Sam Prett scoered Whitstable's second goal: see More for match pictures Whitstable struck first as the match, played at a good tempo
in blistering heat was a reasonable test for both sides. The referee had said
before the kick off there would be no rolling substitutions, which so often mar
these early season forays. Both teams opted for a settled side for the first 45
minutes, with Town favourites Sam Prett and Steve Marshall leading up-front. It
was Marshall; who when driving into the opposition box ghosted past two of three
players before upping his pace and striking a well placed left footed volley in
the 22nd minute who scored the first goal of the 2006-07 season. The ?Darts? responded minutes later after some poor
marking by the home side. However Town were back in front after Prett, from good work by Mickey Lane, then Marshall before he
slotted in Towns second. Again the visitors responded this time after a corner was
not cleared and Towns defence played head tennis instead of row z to clear the
ball, new keeper Kevin Fewell was partially unsighted as Darts scored their
second.

t Mark Lane AUDIO: Mark who with Assistant manager Simon Halsey took the 1st team game against Dartford whilst manager Marc Seager went with the reserves away at the University of Kent where they faced Dartford reserves. The reserves loosing 2-0 to Dartford, Seager saying: ?Despite the scoreline all the lads played well, it was good for me to see some of the players I do not normally get the chance to work with except in training, under match conditions. Lee Jones came through 50 minutes without any reaction, how he is in the next 24 to 48 hours will a bench mark on his return to fitness after missing all of last season through a career threatening injury. Lee was annoyed when I called him off, which I took to be a good sign as it showed he has still the hunger to play, in all honesty he was due to have 20 minutes maybe half and hour but he looked fresh and sharp so I left him on longer than planned.? Lane saying of the first team, who drew 3-3 at The Belmont with a full strength Dartford: ?It was a good work out, I think we were good value for the scoreline, in fact keeper Kevin Fewell?s give away goal for their third aside and poor defending for their second I was quite pleased with the way the lads played.? Pete Budge(left) & Simon Kay WANTED Reserve Team Manager Applications are being accepted for the vacant position of
Reserve Team Manager at Whitstable Town after Simon Kay along with his team of
Peter & Colin Budge have decided to take a break from football, all for
family reasons. ?I shall still be involved with the football club? said Kay: I
just feel that after running at least two sides since I packed up playing at 28
I wanted to take a break and spend a bit more time with my family. I know the
timing is not the best but both Peter and Colin tried their very best to get me
to stay on for one more season. Like me they have family reasons for stepping
aside at the moment, but who knows given a season or so we will no doubt be
missing the involvement with the lads big time.? Peter Budge saying: ?Both my
brother and I need to take a break for purely family reasons, hopefully we will
both be involved with the club on the football side in the not to distant
future, but now wee need to take some time out.? see more...
