ImageHorsham YMCA 1 Whitstable Town 2: King shows class

This was a polished display by Whitstable, the home side on the back of winning promotion for the second season running looked strong in every department, with height in the midfield and at the back and some neat skilful ballplayers up front. Town however were a match for them in very department and full value for the victory which home side coach, ex Deal manager Tommy Samson called: ?A proper football match, often you get a bit of nonsense game these preseason matches but I know my

manager John Souter was pleased with the good work out we had, Marc (Seager) must have been pleased with the performance of his side they played very well. We have had a great couple of seasons and never put out a poor side, although I was looking at a couple of new lads and our keeper is new to the club it was still a game we wanted to win.?

Twins done GOOD for Town Twin bothers Brad & Matt Good who both made their 1st team d?but for WTFC against Cray Valley PM are yet further proof of Whitstable?s production line of young talent. The Good brother who are in this years U18?s were part of the side who won the U16?s cup just over a year ago under the then management of Ken Gower. ?I said at the time they were first team material? said Gower; ?I am so pleased for the lads who have the talent in a year or so to push for a genuine first team spot. They are both strong lads and have been at Town a number of years its yet another example of the way the club promotes young players.? 1st team manager Seager saying: ?These are the sort of games to blood these young lads, there is no pressure on them but I wanted them to experience playing with the first team, being part of the group and they can learn a great deal from being involved today. I only gave then ten minute at the end but it was a very  impotant step in their football caree and a big day for them both. These young men are the future of Whitstable Town.?

Darren Budge & Gary Sayer double up...
Whitstable Town 3 Cray Valley PM 1 Saturday 29th July at the Belmont:
Such was Town?s dominance of the first 45 minutes it was less than five minute before half time when Cray posed their first worthwhile threat on Kevin Fewell?s goal. Until then trailing by goals from Sam Prett and Marcos Perona the visitors found it almost impossible to get into Whitstable?s half of the pitch. Prett scored with the match about 20 minute old after good work from Darren Budge playing wide on the right, his first attempted cross beaten away by Cray Valleys defence the ball finding its way out to Budge once again. This time his perfectly flighted ball drew the keeper who Prett nipped in front off to head home from 10 yards out. With the home side one up the only surprise was it had taken them as long as it had to register on the score sheet, Prett had missed a couple of chance as had young striker Stuart King who arriving late at the far post to another Budge cross just hit the side netting instead of the back of the goal. Town upped the tempo with chances from a couple of corners just going wide before Town went two goals ahead through a delightful chip into the far corner of the visitors goal by Marcos Perona, the young Spaniard found the space and time to pick his spot to perfection. With the clock winding down towards half time Cray mounted their first worthwhile attack, their nippy winger riding one tackle before stand in skipper Shane Davies brought him down just inside the area. The spot kick was cleanly dispatched giving the visitors fresh hope for the second half.

Stuart King AUDIO: PDF Print E-mail
ImageStuart King AUDIO: The young strikers first interview for Whitstable when he speaks about the way he has been embraced by his fellows players which has made him feel part of the club in such a short time. ?All I want to do is score goals for the club, all the lads have made me feel welcome, the set up is very professional and I am looking forward to my time at Whitstable. I know I can score goals at this level, Marc Seager the manager says he has faith in me and I want to repay that by knocking in loads of goals.? Speaking after Steve Marshall laid the ball off for him to slide in a simple goal on Tuesday evening against Sittingbourne he said. ?If it was me I?d have probably gone for goal but Marshy has so much quality and experience he showed me that by passing it was the right thing to do. He has such good awareness about him he gains that extra five yards just because he anticipates so well, I can learn from players at the club like him and my game will improve.?

Simon Halsey
Simon Halsey AUDIO:
WTFC coach Simon Halsey speaking after Saturdays 4-2 defeat in the pre-season friendly against Sittingbourne. ?No excuses? said Halsey we were poor, but better that we get a wake up call now than breeze through all the pre-season and then find we are off the pace come the start of the Kent League. We fell way, way short of what this club is about, we are building a squad which is far better than we played on Tuesday night, but we must not kid ourselves we need to work hard and its only the lads who are prepared to put in the effort who will be in with a chance. 75% is no good we want 100% form the lads. We want them to be winners.?
