Game Off?

ImageGame Off?After a referee?s inspection at 3pm today:  this evenings Reserves Cup Semi Final is OFF. Bruce Smith saying: ?According to the rule we are duty bound to call in a referee, he took one look and agreed that the match could not go ahead. Yesterday, although it was still sticky from the weekend, it was playable and we were determined to get the game on. Given the amount of rain today on top of already wet surface, we had no choice but to call it off.?

No getting up 'til you eat those greens

ImageNo getting up 'til you eat those greens Whitstable Town look to equal the league's best 'unbeaten run' of fourteen at home to VCD Athletic on Saturday afternoon. Of course Marc Seager's troupe will also be looking to avenge last week's defeat in the Kent Senior Trophy, and having had a close look at their team and tactics it should be possible for the management to come up with a plan to unlock Fordy's midfield. The Vickers could also be distracted this week with Premier Division Cup semi-final legs on Thursday and next Tuesday evenings. With 1st playing 3rd in the league on Saturday this could be a great opportunity to close still further on the top of the table. Three points from the game would also put the Reds on an average of 2.04 points per game which is getting in amongst those of other promotion candidates at step five. Now clear that plate!

Foley bust the Oyster Bubble

ImageFoley bust the Oyster Bubble?WTFC 0 VCD 1 Kent Cup: The Belmont Ground 4th March 2006  After the euphoria of a good league performance last Saturday against erstwhile League Champions Maidstone, it was a below par performance by Marc Seager Whitstable Town as they went out in the semi final of the Kent Cup to VCD. The ?Vickers? came to the Belmont full of confidence after a great run this season in the F.A. Vase when they reached the last sixteen; a feat Town achieved some years ago; going out away to North Ferriby by the single goal. Today, it was Paul Fowley?s perfectly judged header early in the second half, which saw Town, falter within touching distance of silverware loosing by the single goal.

Marc AUDIO:The Big Intervew
ImageMarc Seager AUDIO: Marc speaking about the Maidstone victory and the games ahead: ? I like to think I am a very professional manager I go into every game with a game plan, I watch other sides, talk to people all the time about the opposition and in general learn as much as I can. The lads did exactly what I wanted them to do, they all worked hard and they deserved the victory. Make no mistake Maidstone are a very good side, they have quality players in every position, but then so do we, just because they are young, take nothing away from these lads they are all good players.?

Latest news on promotions
Latest news on promotions.... - 2006/02/28 22:12 Update on promotions to step 4, with thanks to Darren Lovell. Another week, another table! The number of eligible clubs in promotion positions drops from 34 to 33 this week. We have one first time entrant in Cammell Laird (25th) this week. Also, for the first time we have news of clubs that have withdrawn their applications for consideration for promotion. Both Leiston and Diss Town in the Eastern Counties have withdrawn, meaning that only 5 clubs are now effectively vying for promotion from that league. In the Northern League, Durham City have too withdrawn their application, meaning that there is now know representation from this particular league in the promotion race. Durham have only 5 league games remaining but are in only 7th place in the table. A better than halfway finish would now seem unlikely for them.
And then there were 97!

More tea Vickers?

ImageMore tea Vickers?  After the terrific league result against Maidstone last weekend Whitstable Town return to cup action in the Lea-Ray Kent Senior Trophy Semi-finals this Saturday. Their opponents are VCD Athletic who have been playing extremely well this year, much to the delight of their gritty manager Martin Ford. They remained in the FA Vase competition to the last sixteen where they narrowly missed out by a single goal away at Cammel Laird and are still going strong in the Premier League Cup and the KOF Premier League. Always a tough game Marc Seager will be need maximum effort from his side, one that may have as many as six changes to the team that beat VCD away (3-1) in the League the first Saturday in September. By a strange quirk of fate VCD return to the Belmont for more tea and biscuits next Saturday in a Kent League fixture. Make no mistake they are both important games but the supporters want a cup final and the Reds are just one win away, watch this space.

No big time Charlie?s

ImageNo big time Charlies...Peter Budge WTFC reserves assistant manager: Picture: Peter Budge (on left) with first team manager Simon Kay:
?Although we are disappointed we lost on Saturday; when you think we had six changes from the week before then seven changes the week before that its no real surprise that we are lacking a little consistency at the moment. It might seem a bit strange but in a way we are victims of having a successful reserves side, now don?t get me wrong, Marc and Simon along with Mark Lane are doing a fantastic job for this football club and its the lads who are all benefiting from the way Marc embraces all the players at the club. If they are good enough they will all get their chance, as he has proved consistently since he took charge, but like Saturday when the first team had Andy Martin, Ian Hossick, Sam
Barker and James Duffy in the squad.

The kids done good

ImageThe kids done good as Town halt Stones unbeaten run: Picture: Steve Marshall who netted the winner for Town: Maidstone United 1 ? 2 Whitstable Town: Bourne Park, Sittingbourne:Kentish Observer Kent League Saturday 25th February 2006: Whitstable started as brightly as the home side, the leveller in a game of few real chances on goal was the weather. The wind seemed to change direction and force by the minute affecting not only the flight of the ball but the players ability to read where it might finish when punted long distance. Add to that a less than perfect surface which in part resembled one of Delia Smith?s recipes for sticky black toffee and you get the picture. It was not a canvas for attractive football.
