MATCH REPORT: Picture: Alex Hossick scorer of WTFC first goal: Beckenham, the team who gave Whitstable a
football lesson on the opening day of the season came to the Belmont with their
confidence sky high were brought down to earth with a bump. Marc Seager?s side
coming out the winners in a match that proved to be a great advert for Kent
Football, with both teams playing their part in what was a entertaining game.
Goals from Alex Hossick and Marcos Perona settled the match, Seager saying: ?I
am thrilled with the way the lads played.? Both sides started brightly,
visiting manager Gavin Rose urging his players on from the first minute with
shouts of ?keep it tight? from the dug-out. But it was the home side who carved
out the best chance in the opening spell, in the eight minute Steve Marshall
was charged in the back from behind by Beckenham?s Peter Adeniyi, the ref
keeping up with play and in a good position waved away appeals of a penalty.

Whitstable?s manager speaking at training about the games ahead starting with Beckenham
on Saturday and the rest of the season. ?This is the test to see how far we
have come, when we played Beckenham in the first game of the season they gave
us a football lesson. I want to show how far we have progressed as a football
club and keep pressure on the teams above us until the last day of the season,
Sure it?s a big game, every game is a big game if you want to be a successful football
club, it my aim, the clubs aim and together I am sure we can move the club
forward.?

Erith, the injury to Ryan Davis who is out for the rest of the season with a

The
Grass is not always greener? The following report was posted on Beckenham?s website last week after reports that their newly
laid pitch was dying? It was headlined: D?ja Vu .... 'Saturday?s game against Slade Green should go
ahead providing we do not have any more rain. Once again Beckenham are facing
headaches regarding the pitch at EPA. The contractor who laid the pitch nearly
two years ago has been called back to inspect the playing surface following
recent water logging. Early reports indicate that the pitch is not draining;
this has been caused by compaction and the knock on effect is a disease that
has formed below the grass itself. A full report from the Contractors will be
released soon' (C) Beckenham FC

WHEN THE GOING GETS TOUGH ?the tough have to get going. In the top Kent League fixture this weekend Whitstable Town play champion wannabes Beckenham Town at the Belmont Road Ground. Beckenham have only lost to Herne Bay and Maidstone so far this season, both times at Eden Park Avenue and so now it's down to the Reds to spoil their away record. As the only home fixture of the four 'six pointers' still left to play in the league, any points dropped might prove fatal to Whitstable's aspirations at season's end. Mind you Whitstable are unbeaten in the last nine league games and three more points would place the Oystermen only seven behind league leaders Maidstone. It's a game almost guaranteed to be a spectacle, with Steve Marshall and Paul Vines on the same pitch any mistakes are sure to be punished, a truly mouthwatering prospect. |

Erith Town 2 v Whitstable Town 0: KOL Group Cup Town loose out on top spot? Manager Marc Seager was upset at this side?s inability to
secure top spot in the group, thereby guaranteeing a home draw against one of
the other group winners either Herne Bay or Hythe away in the quarter
finals. ?We should have done a lot better today but when you
consider what a great run we have been on since October, we were due one poor
game and if this is I out of the way with the Beckenham match at home next
week, then so be it. I am not happy to loose, in fact never happy when
Whitstable drop below the standards I have set, but I admit we did today. I am
still a young manager and will make mistakes but I will learn from them. It
would be easy to say what a poor ref we had today, and despite creating at
least double the scoring chances Erith had, they scored two, I think had three
chances, we just could not put the ball into the net. We hit the post, their
keeper made some great saves and for me was man of the match and they kept nine
men behind the ball and made it hard for us on a difficult pitch. The lads are
not down, they know that as a team we all undreperformed, we will not let this
blip detract us from improving the side and always trying to play good football."

Fancy a flutter.. Bookies are notorious at laying the odds, just
look at some of these prices, On Saturday we play Erith Town away, if we beat
them 3-0 the odds laid are 16/1 but for the Beckenham game the week after for
the same scoreline at home it?s 40/1, now I know that we are plying a side one
week whose goal difference is more than the other have scored and conceded all
season. But value for money what bet would you go for? I for one like the fact
that our local bookie supports the Town, brings his children to the Belmont
whenever he can and is often accompanied other friends and family. As one of
the Oyster Boy?s (or was it Girl?s) said one week, ?if we all bring a friend,
even if its only now and again, the difference it makes to the atmosphere at the
ground is worth a goal to Marc and the lads.? PS: check out the betting link? |
