Whitstable Town 3 Erith 0...Saturday 18 February 2006: KOKL:Town back on track with Martin hat
trick .....Whitstable's Andy Martin, the Division 1 leading score
was the player with the biggest smile on his face at the final whistle as Whitstable
got back to winning ways in fine style. ?I don?t think you could have possibly removed
the smile on my face,? Martin said after the game. ?I have had some half decent
games for the first team but I hope that today?s performance has given the manager
a bit of a headache with the Maidstone game next week in our sights.? After the disappointment of
loosing out to Herne Bay in the Group Cup quarter final and the prospect of a
tough away match to league leaders Maidstone next Saturday, the performance of
Marc Seager?s Whitstable was as important as the result, albeit against the
leagues bottom club Erith Town. There seemed little chance on paper of the
visitors netting a hat full of goals, their net return from the 17 games played
before Saturdays was a measly 12, having concede 41 in the process. Their biggest
win of the season was away at Sevenoaks winning by the single goal. But; as
football followers the world over know only to well, previous form, reputation
and lady luck count for little when in comes to 90 minutes of passion.

Simon Halsey AUDIO: ?We
switched off, it was a tough physical game but that?s part of football, we just
have to cope with that sort of game. This is the sort of result that we will
learn from and make sure we are better prepared for this sort of encounter. Sam
Mott made a couple of great saves towards the end when we were pushing on to
try and get something from the game. As it was, they killed the game off after
the second goal, fair play to them it was their game plan and it worked for
them today. Another day we will see who comes out on top.?

Dockers soccer shocker? ErithTown pay the Belmont a visit on Saturday in a Kentish Observer Football League fixture. At the foot of the table the Dockers have only six points from a possible 51, they've lost their last six away league fixtures and haven't won in the last fourteen. On the face of it a walk over, but how can we forget that they beat Whitstable in the Premier Division Cup group stage by two goals and with no reply! They resisted well in that game, frustrating, very physical and with a flat back line the Reds got no reward from trying to play through the centre of the park. We had a sublime performance at Slade Green the week before and another, beating Beckenham, the week after. How the heck did they do it? Can they do it again? I can guarantee they will be up for it. Nil nil in the previous league meeting, maybe they're our bogey side? Although Town are unbeaten in the last eleven KOFL matches Marc and the lads will be needing all the support we can muster, see you Saturday.

Town hustled out of Cup.. Herne Bay 2 Whitstable Town
1: Kent League Group Cup Quarter Final: 11th feb 2006 Picture: Owen Williams (blue) tussles with goal scorer Arron Knight: Even at one-nil up after Dave
Masters 18th minute strike Herne Bay tried to slow the game down.
When they went 2-1 ahead early in the second half after Arron Knight had
levelled the game on the stroke of half time; their tactics took the gloss of
what was other wise a workman like performance. ?Bay? as out-battled Town all
over the pitch, but the way they slowed the game down with players going down
for no apparent reason in the second half had spectators looking for a sniper
hidden in the trees over by the railway bank. It was not pretty to watch.

Town play at step five of the non-league pyramid which comes of age this year in so much as automatic promotion to step four will be introduced. While it is still unclear, because of the creation of the new league at step four, how many might be elevated this season, the Champions of each league will definitely be promoted as long as their grounds meet the standard. With this in mind I thought it might be interesting to look at the other fourteen leagues playing at our level and the clubs vying for top spot.
Isthmian division two. (16/16 have applied for promotion) This league is going to be disbanded at the end of this season as part of the FA's reorganisation, however promotion will still take place. Ware Town are currently top on 33 points from 17 games, Brook House in second (15/31pts) on goal difference from Flackwell Heath (17/31pts.). Ten points cover the top nine sides with at least 36 more to play for and so it is possible for this to change significantly before the season's end. The other six contenders are Chertsey Town (18/29pts), Witham Town (16/26pts), Kingsbury Town (17/25pts), Chalfont St.Peter (16/25pts), Croydon (18/24pts) and Edgware Town (18/23pts). |

No 2nd chance: The KOL has reminded clubs that the weekends cup
games are played to a finish on the day: Their reminder was as follows: Please be
reminded that all League Cup quarter-final ties are to be played to a finish on
the day with extra-time and penalties if necessary. Could clubs please confirm
with the referees before the start of the ties that they are fully aware of the
league rules (no replays!!). If there are any doubts on the day please contact
a league official immediately. With both ourselves and Herne Bay sharing the
points in the previous two league encounters, Andy Constable scoring the winner for Whitstable late in the game in the Kent Senior Trophy
tie back in November, the match on Saturday is sure to be a very tight affair.

Two KOF League Cup quarter finals for Whitstable sides this Saturday. The first team travel to Herne Bay in the Premier Division Cup for yet another derby match, their fourth meeting this season. While the reserves play at the Belmont in the Division 1&2 Cup against Hythe Town. The previous encounters with the Blues have produced two draws in the league and a win for Town in the Kent Senior Trophy. Bay dispatched Sporting Bengal United convincingly last weekend by eight goals to nil and with no fewer than seven different names on the scoresheet! Whitstable had an altogether harder task at Deal and did well to come away with a point. Once again this football club's strength in depth was ably demonstrated as an impressive team was fielded besides having nearly enough players injured and suspended to form another team. |
