FA Youth Cup 1st Qualifying Round

The Under 18’s were dumped out of the FA Youth Cup last night losing 6-1 at Croydon. Town took a small squad and were heavily impacted by injuries during the game. With Andy McGinty scoring Town’s goal early on it was one way traffic with Toby Wood making a number of great saves to keep the score down .

The game started at a blistering pace with both teams going close but it was APM (Holtwood) who got their noses in front after only ten minutes with a well worked counter attacking goal. Within a minute Town were level with a great solo run from Rene Rivera down the left beat four players and drill  his shot into the bottom left had corner of the net. Five minutes later, Whitstable hit APM on the counter and from the a resulting corner Joe Fairweather slammed the ball home from six yards. With both teams going close it was APM who scored next to equalise after 31 minutes and then took the lead after 35 minutes. However Town’s heads did not drop and had APM penned in their own half for the remaining ten minutes. They were rewarded with a equaliser on the stroke of halftime through Harry McGachie.

The hosts  started the second half brightly and had APM on the back foot for almost all of the half hitting the woodwork four times and their goalkeeper pulling off four fine saves to keep Town at bay. However in the 85th minute with Town still pushing for the winner APM worked a counter attacking goal to take the points. It was one of those days where the best team lost, a great effort from the lads.

Whitstable Under 18’s got off to a convincing start to their season on Sunday morning as they hammered Ramsgate 4-0 at the Belmont. The team looked bright in the first half and took the lead early on via Charlie Hills. They had one attempt before half time ruled out for off side. The Town turned the screw in the second half  with two goals from Bradley Dale and Harry McGachie. Sandwiched between those two goals, Whitstable did have another goal ruled out again for offside. Rene Rivera put the icing on the cake with an excellent goal for Town’s fourth. It was a well deserved three points which gives the Under 18s optimism for the rest of the season.
