Whitstable sunk to another home defeat on Saturday afternoon despite a spirited second half improvement losing 4-2 at home to Whyteleafe.

It was Town who had the first opportunity after twelve minutes when Sam Bewick had a long range attempt which was held well by former Whitstable keeper Adam Highsted. However it was Whyteleafe who took the lead as the ball was diverted into the net by Town defender Cameron

Heffernan after 22 minutes. Town however were on the attack again within a minute as the ever dangerous Stuart King had shot well saved by Highsted. Further misery came for Whitstable as Vernon Francis headed in at the near post to give Whyteleafe a two goal lead. It was almost three a minute later as Sam Clayton broke through and pushed a shot against the upright. Within two minutes a moment of individual skill from King saw Town narrow the lead as he deftly looped the ball over Highsted’s head and into the net. Sam Bewick was unlucky not to bring the scores level as a diving header from a Cameron Heffernan cross went over the target. But there was further misery for Town a minute before the break as Reiss Crimmen deflected the ball into his own net.

It was Whitstable who were first out of the blocks in the second half as Highsted saved well from King but within three minutes of the restart Whyteleafe increased their lead as Francis got his second as he lopped the ball home. Town did not

give up and were then to create the majority of the remaining chances. On 54 minutes a Joe Kennett header went wide and then King also fired wide. Then came a trio of efforts within a minute as first Bewick had a shot tipped over by Highsted and then King had two shots blocked. Highsted was again to deny King before the Town striker surged through to fire home with five minutes to go. One more chance for Whitstable as Heffernan sent in a cross to Charlie Smith who just missed at the near post.

It was all too little too late for Town as they fell to their fifth defeat on the spin but at least the second half was more encouraging.
