Dean Grant challenges

Whitstable Town 1 South Park 6

Ryman Football League Division One (South)

Saturday 30th January 2016

Things look grim at Whitstable as a poor performance led to them sinking to an embarrassing 6-1 defeat at home to South Park on Saturday afternoon.

South Park’s dominance started straight away as after only four minutes they were unlucky not to take the lead as Nathan Ayling hit a shot against the inside of the upright. Town had their first effort after seven minutes as Wayne Wilson sent in a corner which was met by Joe Kennett but his header went wide. South Park were however dominating the proceedings and were ahead on ten minutes as Karl Parker worked his way into the penalty area and slotted the ball past Town keeper Dan Eason. On 22 minutes Dean Grant from the left forced South Park keeper Daniel Moody into a save. On 24 minutes Kofi Quartey hit a shot straight at Eason. South Park’s dominance was rewarded when they scored their second on 31 minutes. Kieran Lavery pounced onto a loose ball firing into an empty

net. Things got even worse for Town on 39 minutes when they were reduced to ten men as Dean Grant got involved in an incident with a South Park defender and was shown a red card. South Park were able to increase their lead on the stroke of half time as Lavery slotted home his second.

The second half started with Town under pressure as Eason saved well in the 46th minute. Stuart King had an opportunity to get a goal back but was denied by Moody and then on 61 minutes Jack Stafford took the game well out of Whitstable’s reach as he slotted home. With a quarter of an hour to go South Park rubbed salt into Town’s wounds and the ball was slotted through to Quartey who slotted home. Four minutes later Town were to get a small consolation as King got through and fired home. Town were finally looking dangerous creating some chances as firstly Charlie Smith fired over the bar and

then a King cross found Smith who shot straight at Moody. The final nail was put into the Whitstable coffin as Stafford got his second as he hammered the ball in off the underside of the bar deep into injury time.

It was a very bad afternoon for Town as their attempt to escape the relegation zone took a huge blow.
