Whitstable Town 1 Godalming Town 2

Town fluff their lines… After early pre-season promise when manager Mark Lane cautioned supporters and players not to get too carried away after some good performances.  Lane’s words had ring of truth as Town squandered a first minute lead within five minutes of Tom Parker scoring with a looping cross fumbled by the visiting keeper

The visitors reply in the 6th minute was just a easy, Town failed to deal with a hopeful punted ball, the bounce in the wind catching out Whitstable defence to leave keeper Kevin Fewell flatfooted and Godalming’s Stanley  with a simple tap in. The only other chance for Whitstable in the first forty five minutes fell to Ian Pulman; his looped shot with the keeper off his line was off target. That was about as good as is got.

The second half was a dour affair as far as the home supporter were concerned, Fewell called upon far too often to deny the visitors.  Chances on target were few and far between and those were created by the visitors. Town were far too narrow and balls hit to the front players were often head height, not to feet.  They need to take note that all the good football pre-season has been played on the floor with the keeper rolling the ball out of defence.

Today they kicked it long straight down the centre of the pitch, easy for the visitors and impossible for our front lads to score from. The visitors second and deciding goal came after a poor back pass left Fewell with no chance and for the second time in the game, this time the visitors Purdey walked the ball into Whitstable net in the seventy fifth minute. Whitstable have three games over the next week, two league and an FA Cup and they need to cut out the high ball stuff and pass It.!
